23 Feb - SMASH CANS Making and "Playing".. We enjoyed it!

What a saturday service.. I can say that this was one of the most enjoyable handicrafts cum games session that both the old folks and volunteers had "Great" fun.. The old folks who participated like this smash cans making -> Then use their achievements to play into Smash Cans.
Here are the moments of Care, Love & Joy!

Starting with putting the "Bishan" Sands into the empty drink cans.. Think using tail of spoons were much easier... Must be half filled U know, so that more challenging for our experienced uncle and aunt to hit the pyramid structure.. Then volunteers to masking tape up the hole of each can.

Let's hit the Coke, Lemon tea or Tiger beer.. See who score the most points.. At the end, all old folks who came and join in our activity-> walk away with a little prize.

Group photo of volunteers.. Me beside my beloved uncle Tan.

Then our playful girls want to make the tallest can pole... They r the kind souls who share care and love on a typical saturday while the rest of the youth & adults doing shopping, movie and relax at home. "Well done, Girls -> Please spread the volunteering Spirit"

Finally the pole of cans is taller than me, about 2.5m ~ using 25 cans height..

6 Feb - Making of Lucky Fishes

Well, there was a little "violence" going on at All Saints Home-Hougang during our volunteer session. Not to worry not that the residents have any blue black or our volunteers, our newly made smashing cans suffered a few dents and bends. I'll let our volunteers fill you in with the details.

i'm here to share about our next volunteer session on 6th Feb (2.30 to 5.30pm), making of lucky fishes using red packets. In addition, we will thread the fishes with tassles as well. We are targetting in making at least 144 fishes on that day so that we can hand/hang the fishes for each of our residents.

Volunteers, please read this and you may wish to try at home first - safety first, handle scissors with care. =)

Things You Need:-

  • Red Packet (1 - fish and 1 for tassels)
  • Scissors
  • Stapler / Double-sided tape
  • Red thread

Steps in Making the Fish

1) Get a red packet (make sure inside no $)
2) Fold the bottom closed edge (not the top part where you slot $ in) to a degree another side at 45 degrees.
3)Cut from left hand side at around 60 degree to about 40-50% length, then cut to the other end 4) Open the red packet, then cut from the "tail" until some where near the 'fins" 5) Punch a hole at "head" - eye
5) Fold the tails cross for both side, and make sure the 'stomach' of the fish is facing outside
6) Staple the tails.
